Metro K9 Academy provides Schutzhund & IGP dog training for qualified handlers and dogs seeking structured working-dog development. This program focuses on obedience, tracking foundations, and controlled protection skills within the IGP framework.

Schutzhund and police K9 training are not general obedience programs and are not appropriate for every dog or owner. We work with teams who understand the commitment, responsibility, and long-term handling required.

Working-Dog Development, Not Pet Training

Schutzhund and IGP training are designed to evaluate and develop working traits such as nerve strength, clarity, control, and drive management. These programs are used worldwide to assess breeding suitability, working potential, and handler skill.

At Metro K9, this work is approached methodically and responsibly. Dogs must demonstrate stability, obedience foundations, and suitability before entering any phase of advanced development.

Who This Training Is For

  • This program may be appropriate for:
  • Experienced handlers pursuing IGP titles
  • Working-line German Shepherds and Dobermans
  • Law enforcement or professional K9 candidates
  • Breeders seeking structured evaluation of working traits

This program is not for casual pet owners, first-time handlers, or dogs without proper temperament and foundation work.

Training Foundations Emphasized

  • Precision obedience and handler control
  • Drive development with clear boundaries
  • Tracking and scent-based foundation work
  • Controlled protection exercises within sport standards
  • Neutrality and environmental stability

All work emphasizes clarity, fairness, and control, not intensity or aggression.

Evaluation Required

Participation begins with a formal evaluation to assess:

  • Temperament and nerve strength
  • Obedience foundation and control
  • Handler experience and goals
  • Suitability for working-dog development

Metro K9 reserves the right to decline dogs or handlers when this work is not appropriate.

Relationship to Breeding & Placement

Schutzhund and IGP training support Metro K9’s breeding and development standards by helping confirm working traits, stability, and control. This training is one of the tools used to evaluate dogs—not a requirement for family placement.
