Train with Metro K9 Academy’s professional handlers every Saturday in a supportive group setting. We run six progressive levels so you and your dog advance at your own pace over six months of training access. Start with a free evaluation to place your dog at the right level and set goals that stick.
Why It Works
Our dogs don’t speak a language; we teach clear communication. You’ll learn how to create companionship through structure, timing, and simple reps you can repeat at home. Miss a Saturday? No problem. The curriculum is built so you won’t fall behind. A good dog is a happy dog.
Level-by-Level Path
Level 1 — Start Class (Orientation)
Skills: Covers principles of dog training, equipment, safety, and how group classes and Level 2 work.
Registration is required before attending the Start Class.
Level 2 — Foundations
Skills: Sit, Sit/Stay; Down, Down/Stay; Loose-leash walking.
Testing: Sit/Stay at the end of a 6-foot lead while the handler walks a full circle; Loose-leash walking with frequent direction changes.
Level 3 — Focus & Early Recall
Skills: Stays with distractions; resistance stays; recalls with sit-front; recalls from flexi length; sit from down.
Testing: Sit/Down stays while the handler stands on the lead; distraction proofing (claps, steps, approach); recall to clean sit-front from a 6-foot lead.
Level 4 — Heeling & Duration
Skills: Heeling with pace changes, left/right/about turns, halts; longer sit/down stays; stand and look.
Testing: Loose-lead heel with halt and about turn; long-room recall; 30-sec sit and down stay from across the room; 30-sec stand stay on a 6-ft lead.
Level 5 — Motion & Off-Lead Prep
Skills: Sit/Down in motion; heeling with leash dragging; resistance stands and look; faster pace changes, quick halts, run-out about turns; distractions added to recalls.
Testing: Heel with leash dragging (about turn, halt, sit-in-motion, down-in-motion); “look” and stand while the handler walks around.
Level 6 — Graduate Test Prep
Skills: All exercises required for Metro K9 Academy’s Graduate Test.
Testing: Graduate Test is held on the last Saturday of every month.
Head Start Puppy Program (Premier Puppy Training in NJ)
Give your puppy the right start with positive, professional socialization and owner coaching.
You’ll learn: Housebreaking, crate training, imprinting, clicker & free-shaping, household manners, chewing, barking, drop/release, feeding routines, exercise, and safe introductions to people and dogs under a trainer’s eye.
Problem-Solving Q&A: Dedicated time each session to address fundamental issues at home.
Field Trips: Supervised outings to higher-traffic areas for distraction training and handler confidence—an essential step toward a puppy who can accompany you in public.
