Overview
Metro K9 Academy’s K9 Awareness Safety Training equips field employees to recognize canine body language, respond correctly, and reduce risk on the job. The session uses live, highly trained dogs to demonstrate real behaviors and safe human responses that workers can apply immediately in neighborhoods, yards, and facilities.
Who It’s For
Utility crews, meter readers, delivery drivers, municipal staff, facility teams, insurance inspectors, landscapers, and any employee who may encounter dogs while working on or near private property.
What Your Team Will Learn
- Reading canine body language and intent
- Safe approach and avoidance techniques
- How to respond when a dog is guarding territory, a person, or equipment
- Simple de-escalation steps that lower risk fast
- Practical safety tools employees can carry and how to use them
- Legal and company policy considerations for reporting incidents
Live Demonstrations
Training includes controlled demonstrations with Metro K9 Academy dogs to show alert, fear, prey, and protection responses. Volunteers may participate in a supervised protective suit experience to understand pressure, timing, and calm disengagement.
Trusted by Major Employers
Regional operations teams from PSE&G New Jersey and Long Island, New Jersey American Water, SUEZ Water, UPS, and other organizations use this program in safety meetings to raise awareness, reinforce best practices, and standardize field protocols.
Results Companies See
Organizations report fewer dog-related incidents, stronger incident reporting, and higher employee confidence in the field after implementing this training and reinforcing it in toolbox talks.
“We’ve trained rooms full of utility and delivery teams—PSE&G, American Water, SUEZ, UPS and more. Thirty years of know-how plus live dogs equals high-impact learning they remember on the next doorstep—and when crews are still talking about the ‘dog guy’ in the truck the next day, we know it stuck. That’s why companies like PSE&G and American Water keep us in their safety rotations.”
